Author

I have authored two books on climate risk and response: “A World Made New” from 2020; and “The New Corporate Climate Leadership” from 2021.

A World Made New

A World Made New was written in May, 2020 in the early days of the COVID pandemic. The book anticipated that up to US$20  trillion, would be spent over the following 18 months to avoid economic collapse and argued that investing this money in driving low-carbon, resilient and inclusive development was a once in a generation opportunity. In A World Made New I asked us to resist the temptation to return to an extractive economy characterized by environmental destruction and social inequality, and instead "reinvent" - turn this moment of crisis into an opportunity to build a 21st century economy that is both just and sustainable. I offered 15 design principles and practical recommendations spanning taxes and subsidies, social protection programs, and corporate leadership.

The New Corporate Climate Leadership

Co-authored with Dr. Emilie Prattico, The New Corporate Climate Leadership provides a comprehensive treatment of the role of the private sector in accelerating the transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient, and inclusive world. The book offers a state-of-the art assessment of the climate commitments from more than 6,000 companies from 120 countries representing more than $36.5 trillion in revenue. While celebrating the emergence of climate action across the private sector, the book also spotlights the significant gaps between corporate promises and tangible plans. It offers a vision for corporate climate leadership fit for 2030 and practical guidance on how to get there.
